The Weeks Bay Pitcher Plant Bog off Highway 98 in south Alabama is one of my favorite places to photograph. I've been there in all seasons and never lack for inspiration. In August and September a particular wild flower blooms and butterflies arrive in mass. This year I've made a point to go there looking for all those butterflies. I had heard they came by the hundreds and so far I've not seen that many but definitely I've seen far more butterflies in one place than I've ever seen before. As you may have seen in a previous album, Pitcher Plant Bog 8.08, there is a boardwalk around the bog. Some trips I've tried to move around on the walk to follow the butterflies but have found that I generally get better shots from sitting down on the walkway and letting them come to me. Butterflies are curious creatures. Swallowtails have been the most abundant species but I've also seen monarchs, skippers and buckeyes.
