Abundant spring rains have really done wonders for the flowers in lower Alabama. Whether they are in yards, along streets or in parks, they are a gorgeous addition to the landscape. I feel really blessed to live in a part of the country that is lush and green. Granted, we deal with all the heat and humidity to have this beauty but most of the time I think it is a very good trade-off. I enjoy our trips out West where the air is cool and dry but I love the resplendence most of us take for granted.
One Saturday morning I rode my scooter to Fairhope and got ready to shoot as the sun began to rise in the sky. Being a weekend, the streets were quiet and empty except for the bicyclists and runners. I parked and walked, finding pretty street corners and flower boxes outside businesses. The Stargazer lilies were beautiful and coated with droplets of water that caught the early sun. I missed the best time for the lilies last year so I made a point of going early in the lily season. I was not disappointed. The oleanders were bountiful and in full bloom along with the magnolia trees. With my 100-400mm zoom lens I was able to get close shots of the magnolia high up in a tree.
Several of these flowers are from friends' yards here in Foley. I'm lucky to have many friends who love flowers and who love to share them with me. They graciously allow me to wander through their backyards whenever I choose. Thank you!
