One of the many benefits to living in south Alabama are the early blooming flowers and trees. About the time the northern areas of our country are peeping out from the snow, we down here are well into growing season. In fact, there are rarely any weeks of the year that something is not in bloom. Most of these photographs were taken as I walked around here in Foley early one foggy April morning. Toward the end are some taken in Edna's garden. She does an incredible job growing the most beautiful and varied garden! You can search this website for "Edna's garden" and see what she grows. You will be wowed!
I was certainly taken by surprise as I walked into the local park's pond area that morning. I saw turtles parked on the base of the large cypress trees and then I spotted a Great Blue Heron. It saw me and flew up into the trees. I've seen a lot of those birds but have never seen them perched in a tree! Not only did it land on the tree branches, it began to walk around up there. I couldn't believe it; the heron walked around as calmly and evenly as if it were on land. I wished someone else had been there with me. Describing it just didn't do the experience justice.
