March is a beautiful month in the South! The weather is warm, days are bright and everything is new. Last year we discovered why our irises hadn't bloomed since we planted them. The remedy was as simple as moving them to a different part of our yard. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing the first of their blooms last year and this year even more of them are blooming. For the shots last year I used a backdrop and left the irises as I found them. This year I began that way and then we started having terrible winds and storms that tore them apart. I solved that problem by cutting the flowers and bringing them into the house. That presented a different problem; how would I photograph a cut flower? I tried several things and decided an old lace tablecloth made the best backdrop by far. I hope you agree.
Most of the other photos in this album come from the rose gardens along the Foley walking path that runs through the center of town. You've seen these roses before but I think this time I got some shots that really come alive. I used my 70-200mm lens with an extension tube that allowed me to get close to the subjects. And if you are familiar with my work, you know it just wouldn't be a Beverly Everson Photography album without at least one spiderwort! Enjoy!
